was found outside a local mosque. it was found last weekend at the islamic society of san francisco in jones street. none of that seemed to be on the mind of thousands of muslims who celebrated muslim unity day at great america. >> reporter: it shouldn't be a surprise but muslims just want to have fun and they hope to show families like everybody else. >> muslims like to enjoy time with family and friends and eat and have a good time and laugh. >> reporter: protests in new york city over plans to build a mosque two blocks north of ground zero are part of what they are calling anti muslim hysteria this day said one is the antidote to that. members of all communities were invited to share but even on this day the conflict with

a nevado teen is in critical condition and faces serious charges for a car crash that killed a 15-year-old friend. the young driver may have did not drinking and speeding when he lost control of his car yesterday. >> reporter: every 15 minutes someone dies in an alcohol related car accident. in april the students of nevado high participate in that simulation to illustrate it but today they deal with the real thing. >> we saw the bmw, the car they were driving it was going toward our school and then the truck was behind it and we saw like the helicopters and i saw the yellow tarp. >> reporter: the crash site is now cleaned up and a vigil stands in its place with a picture of the 15-year-old boy who died here yesterday. among the flowers and the

crosses is a letter from his family that starts dear nephew, there is so so much i hoped to share with you. >> it's really sad. you don't have to know them to feel it. >> reporter: in the small town everybody seems to be impacted by the tragic crash but what make itself even more difficult are the circumstances behind it. >> you had a young adult who made a poor decision starting from driving without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, and then driving at a high rate of speed which is a total recipe for disaster. >> reporter: the sergeant said the 16-year-old driver now faces a series of charges that could result in spending much of his life in jail. >> we just had like a meeting on drinking driving so it should have like clicked in people's heads but i guess -- i mean, things happen. they didn't think this was going to happen at all. >> reporter: throughout the area there are still more questions than answers.

>> why were they out of school before lunch break. where did they get the alcohol, who car was it, why was he drives without a license. >> reporter: as they wait for answers the community is coming together to remember a boy who touched so many lives. >> i feel like everybody knew this kid. everybody. he was like nice to everybody. he knew people from all over. everybody is coming today to like support him and to show their love and care for him. >> reporter: students all three schools are honoring the boy's memory by gathering to chalk his initials on this hill. it'll now seven as a very public memorial to their lost friend as well as a reminder of the consequences of drunk driving. >> she was among the youngest victims of the pipeline explosion nine days ago. 20-year-old jessica morales was remembered tonight for her spirit and her deep love for family. ♪ [ music ]

>> reporter: friends, family and leaders gathered to say good-bye. there was laughter and tears at tonight's memorial as mourners recalled jessica's fashion sense and gift for friendship. most of all they remembered her joyful spirit. >> she was just so happy. mostly i will miss your laughter. i hear it so clearly. i see your smile to vividly. >> she shook my quiet little world with laughter, smile, tears and most importantly love. jessica we will always miss you, your big goofyself, your smile, most of all of course your smile. >> reporter: morales was watching football with her boyfriend at his home when the pipe loin exploded step away. he said he ran outside to see what was going on and when he tried to go back in for jessica

he couldn't reach her. he is in the hospital with second and third degree burns over 40% of his bad. it's the happy memories that will keep family going. >> jessica was a wonderful sister and we all loved her very much. >> reporter: she was a graduate of pennsylvania high school and had been taking classes at the academy of art university and wanted to be a fashion designer. her boyfriend's house was in a cluster of homes where four victims died. they include a mother and daughter, and an 85-year-old elizabeth torres. the three members of a family still missing lived two doors down. the family of the missing family said they are convinced all three died in the blast. the family said the remains of two men and a woman were found at the house.

the coroner has not confirm that and are still doing tests on the remains. the first lawsuit has been filed in the wake of the explosion. a man evacuated has filed a class action suit demanding the company turnover the recovery fund to a third party. his attorney said the cost of recovery will be much more than expected. >> if you look at the -- the real estate people i have talked to, the property falling, the injuries, personal injuries, possible -- their damages will be a lot more than that. >> reporter: in a written response the company said it's committed to the residents and the city to rebuild and will be there every step of the way. a berkeley graduate in prison in iran for more than a year is on her way home to the united states tonight. sarah was released tuesday but left behind her fiance and a

friend in iran. she was flown to a country she credits with helping her win her freedom. >> i will always associate your country with the first breath of my freedom. the sweet smell of sandal wood and the chance to stand by the ocean listening to the waves. >> reporter: her next public appearance will be at a news conference tomorrow in new york. it'll be timed to coincidence with the arrival of the president of iran. checking bay area headlines, beale street is closed again this weekend as demolition crews make way for the new transbase terminal. they shut down the road yesterday and it'll stay closed until 5:00 a.m. monday. the terminal project will replace the old terminal at first and mission. it's scheduled to be done in 2017. supporters of proposition

was waiting for the rapture. a police officer is getting his job back after being accused of faking search warrants. they found he did not lie for fake affidavits and ordered him reinstated. he was one of 11 accused of lying to obtain search warrants. most of the cases based on those warrants have been dismissed. a northern california community is fighting to keep a paroled serial killer out of their community. he has been released to live in a home built on the grounds of a state prison. two other counties have stopped him from being released to them. they say he will be constantly monitor bud people nearby are worried. >> they expect him to just live free, sit next to us at the theater, go shopping with

this area of low pressure off the coastline and this cold front on through. the jet stream just heading to the north. a slow mover. after the midnight hour likely going to see showers in parts of the north bay and then looks like it'll sag down through the rest of the bay area. summer showers on tap for the bay area of the. most of this will be done by the noontime and then start to taper off into hatter part of the afternoon. starting you out through the evening you have couple of clouds moving on by but the run not looking like it'll start in until the midnight hour. the middle of the morning this starts to move on through. rain will pick up. more than a quarter inch much. maybe three quarters in the north bay. temperatures fairly mild around the bay area. let's plan on a lot of those no.s in to the 60s and the 07's into the afternoon. we will seek a little bit of sun in there to. the weather settles down in toward fall which starts

the ten years i have been working here and i have seen a lot. >> reporter: the doctor is treating 24-year-old michael martinez who remains at highland hospital paralyzed but recovering the life threatening fall he took at golden gate field last sunday. compare his condition on arriving to today. >> most improved at this point. he awake now, able to talk to u >> reporter: is he meeting the martinez family including michael's parents who flew up to be with him. >> i can't say how he feel but you know it looks to me like he -- little confused and a little scared. >> reporter: the family is considering what stem cell treatment night be best for michael if any. >> spinal cord is very delicate and so far there has

not been one case in which it can be fixed. >> reporter: in fact he said implants stem cells could put him at greater risk because doctors would have to knock down his immune system. >> we have been a little slow on this-the whole issue because we know that he wasn 't stable enough to have the trip or something like that and that he had this brain injury that needed close care but i think definitely i could foresee he will be stable enough next week. >> reporter: more now they want to take time to decide what's best. >> if he is going to be paralyzed, horrible -- it's going to be a life. >> reporter: he could still be a father. >> yes. be a brother. son, cousin. we just happy that he is a live. >> reporter: there is a group in chicago doing the surgery
